UPDATE WW1 German Tropenhelm - PIONEERS

G, day guys,

Just an update of my Imperial German tan Tropenhelm, I found a site that had some diagrams for the coloured bands for the
different branches (Cavalry, Infantry, Artillery etc) and realised exactly what branch of service my Tropenhelm must be - PIONEERS

So I mocked up a helmet band for that service, having a white metal helmet plate and the only one in the diagrams to have this, it must be Pioneers.
The Artillery has the same black band with red piping top and bottom but Artillery has a brass plate not white metal.
This completes this helmet to what they would have looked like in the field, unless I find an original pioneers helmet band, but I don't think that's going to happen?
I'll mock up a white band for the other Tropenhelm at a later stage.

Cheers
Stu

Unfortunately I wouldn't say spare Eddie I'm affraid smile

Thanks guys, yes I think the helmet band adds a bit more eye candy to the display. Plus I need it to attached the large cockades otherwise there
is nothing to attach them too. These cockades are coloured in proper enamel, not just painted so I think these could be original?
Same cockades that are worn on the Shutztruppen slouch hats worn in East Africa etc.

Sabastien,... just thought I'd also mention that I've just started to put together a 1914 French soldier, but when I say just started I mean like yesterday lol
But I have managed to get an early back pack & a water bottle, so if you see or hear of any early French OR's equipment or uniform pieces please let me know? I know some of that early gear is rare so some might have to be repro to complete it? roll

Thanks
Stu

Re: UPDATE WW1 German Tropenhelm - PIONEERS

Thanks Sabastien, yes funny enough that's were I got the back pack & water bottle.
I've always wanted to do a 1914 French soldier to represent the country the war was fought in on the western front plus to show the coloured uniforms
worn in the early stages of that war.

Cheers
Stu
