Meine Schildkröte Sommer 1941

i want to show you this little foto ive got with some others and the tortoise shell.

The picture was taken near Bardia and shows a tortoise near a pith helmet, on the backside stands "Summer 1941 My Tortoise"



On the tortoise shell stands "Andenken an Afrika" with a palm tree, the shell is from the ägypthian "Testudo kleinmanni" tortoise whitch is at home in nord afrika

Yes a bit unusual, but I've seen some other period photo's where German soldiers must have found these creatures
interesting and unfamiliar; and photo's were taken to show back home.... cool

Sadly, these little guys were used as a tourist item. And as mentioned, depending on breed it could still have been alive today if left alone - BUT - it is what it is and an interesting piece!
