Tropical Heer Y straps – ink stamped Hans Deuter Augsburg 1941

Hi, I've had these tropical Heer Y straps for a while but haven't posted them in detail previously.

I thought that they may be of interest, as being unissued they still retain
the manufacturer's identifying ink stamp - Hans Deuter of Augsburg and are dated 1941.

You may own a set of used tropical Y straps and are wondering "why are mine unmarked, when many others are stamped
with the manufacturers details on the leather yoke".  You may have thought that yours were ink stamped and
the markings have long ago worn off - well this is what they may have looked like wink

The Y straps I am posting are also marked with numbers, where sections of webbing are stitched together.  These appear to
be an assembly guide for workers at the Deuter factory.  The markings are 181 on the front where the web straps are joined and 189
where the rear D rings are stitched.

Another point of interest is that a couple of small loops on the front of the y straps appear to be made from
the earlier olive web, which the first pattern tropical Y straps, bayonet frogs etc were manufactured.

Deuter is a known manufacturer of a range of other WWII military field items, including backpacks, breadbags and pistol holsters.
This company is still in business today, manufacturing backpacks and other related goods.

Anyway, here are the photo's, regards Markus.

Beautiful! Nice set of straps! Funny how the ink stamps are sometimes easier to read from a distance.

Hi Barron, you're right - quite often I need to take a photo and then put it up on the computer screen to
seen what the ink stamp reads.  On web this can be more difficult than on cloth uniform items.

I've got a 27" monitor so I've found that if I take a couple of steps back to review sometimes all is revealed!

However, I'm a bit disappointed I can't get my shots of the ink stamp to appear clearer in the photo's I've posted....

Thanks for your interest and taking the time to respond to my post smile

Regards Markus

That is always the issue with webbed items - the stamps washed out or degraded with only a little use, so anything with legible stamps is of great interest.
Wonderful set, Markus!

Thanks for the comments Mark smile

Yes, most of the web items I've also seen have their ink stamps either washed out, rubbed off or are indistinguishable.

I imagine anything like the numbered assembly guide stamps on the inside of these Y straps would have
gone very quickly, followed by the manufacturer stamp.

Has anyone out there got a breadbag with Deuter ink stamp on the central support strap for comparison?
These often lasted longer due to to the finer weave of the fabric....

Regards Markus.

Re: Tropical Heer Y straps – ink stamped Hans Deuter Augsburg 1941

Well, I eventually found a reasonably clear image of the Hans Deuter manufacturer ink stamp, which is the same format as the 1941 example on my Y straps.

This clearer stamp was on the inside of a 1942 dated tropical rucksack.  Regards Markus.
