Re: Post your DAK Toys

Wow awesome projects Agent.

The most difficult and most important thing is the painting. To make the effects; age, dirt, rust etc

Re: Post your DAK Toys

Thank you!
The finishing is difficult, yet for me, the most rewarding part of the process.

Here are some of my favorites, saved for last.

DML Pz III E modified into a Befehlspanzer III. I made the rear deck antenna from plastic rod, brass tube and craft beads. View ports and pistol ports were made as resin castings from kit parts. Side antenna troughs are plastic strips. Figures are from Masterbox.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh167/sgtwg/DSCF5717_zpsgllynns7.jpg

Ancient DML Pz IV F2. This is modified to reflect the additions made by the 10 Pz Div.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh167/sgtwg/DSCF5725_zpspyirybfy.jpg

Tamiya Pz III N. A companion to the previously posted N model.

All stowage racks and boxes are scratchbuilt from plastic sheet. Paints are mostly Tamiya acrylics, custom mixed to match RAL Tropen colors.

Re: Post your DAK Toys

Wow. You are a real artist Agent.
Do you use an air brush for painting?
Have you built a Tiger panzer ?

Re: Post your DAK Toys

Don, Thank you sir!

I have 7 airbrushes total, 3 that I use on a regular basis. I still brush paint quite a bit though. The Sherman's green camo was brush painted. All the weathering is done by brush or sponge.

I have a Tiger (#131) in the works.

Sebastian,

The Pz III was, arguably, one of the best designs of that era. The inability to "upgun" the tank was the only downfall.

Re: Post your DAK Toys

Thanks for the reply mate. One day i must get my self a compressor for air brushing. Makes painting easier, especially adding layers on top of others.

Re: Post your DAK Toys

I have started researching for a compressor but read online that a CO2 bottle is more beneficial. Silent and no water trap needed. I have a 3liter bottle for my aquarium and i pay just 5 euros to refill it.

Re: Post your DAK Toys

Don if you have a ready source of CO2 then definitely go that route. I wish I could just get a CO2 canister and have it filled. Local laws prevent me from doing that.  My only issue is the damn cylinder will probably empty during a major painting session.lol

Re: Post your DAK Toys

Hi Agent,
yes i am going to search a bit more about how to use CO2 with an air brush because i don't know exactly how it will be connected and work.

This is the set up in the aquarium.

Re: Post your DAK Toys

Are you sure about your local laws?
I have bought my bottle from a huge importer who specializes in all kind of gases and he is the main supplier of medical oxygen to the hospital etc.
I am sure you have something equivalent. These set ups are legal to buy at pet stores as well. And don't worry of running out during painting. You can install a gauge meter that shows exactly how much gas you have left.
I am injecting 3 bobbles per second in my aquarium and it takes 8 months to spend the 3 litters of CO2.

Re: Post your DAK Toys

Yes, unfortunately laws here in my part of the US prevent storage of pressurized gasses in residential areas. I live in the desert southwest where the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine is rampant. Any measure the legislature can take is usually passed. How storage of CO2 is included, I don't know, but hey I just live here. tongue

The only major issue I can see is having a good pressure regulator.  You really have to be able to regulate the flow down to airbrush levels.

Re: Post your DAK Toys

Thought I would display a few of my Dragon 1:6 scale figures that I place around the house in my book shelves etc. This is a Luftwaffe ground soldier taking a US flyer prisoner as he was about to commandeer an MG that was left laying around by wehrmacht soldier in tropical uniform (with poorly colored boots). Hope you enjoy!   Barron cool

Re: Post your DAK Toys

Dragon 1/35 Panzerbefehlswagen III J. I made the sandbags from green putty. I scratchbuilt the stowage box, jerry can rack and command antenna. Extra track links from my spares. MMP acrylic paint weathered with oils, enamels and pigments.

Only a 200 or so of these were built (converted) between September and November 1942. If you look closely at period photos, you can pick one out in Tunisia every now and then. They were successful enough a dedicated production run was formed in 1943 with the majority heading to the Eastern front.

Very nice! Only thing it seems to be missing are the crew's canteens which many of us look for in the original photographs! Thanks for displaying!  Barron
