Opinion?? Luftwaffe M40 Helmet

Hi everyone. I am looking to purchase two German tropical headgears. I'd love to hear what you guys think of these. The first one here is a Luftwaffe M40 helmet. Two things I want to point out.
1. I think the paint is lightly sprayed vehicle paint, but I am not 100% too sure.
2. Looking at the liner, would it possibly be a KIA helmet, with part of the liner taken out by the capturing solider?

Any help is appreciated!!

Ran

Re: Opinion?? Luftwaffe M40 Helmet

Hello Ran I like the paint colour for sure looks early like mine and has similar wear at the sides the one loose rivet also indicates it was probably slug on the side of a vehicle.Have some more opinion's before you decide though.

Eddie

hi ran, just a follow up, as pointed out on the WAF, this helmet looks to be a postwar mockup

Re: Opinion?? Luftwaffe M40 Helmet

Hi Ran

Would listen to the helmet guys when it comes to stahlhelms. I think most DAK/tropical collectors specilize in cloth more than steel and have spent more time studing caps, tunics, shoulderstraps etc than the guys who like steel.

There are exceptions of course both ways and some guys here do know their steelhelmets too, i am not one of them.

cheers
Tim

Well this is a difficult one as I've already said the paint colour is good but compared with the inside I think the remaining paint on the outside is perhaps just too clean ? compare it with my photo it does not show the wear mine has looking again that is what the members of other forums must have taken into account.Still can't be 100% either way without handling it but with any doubt at all always best to leave it as that is it or isn't question will always be there and hassle selling in the future and these things have to be taken into account when buying.

Re: Opinion?? Luftwaffe M40 Helmet

Agree 100% with your comments Eddie, impossible to judge this helmet without a hands on inspection. You know straight away if it ways period applied paint.

As I stated , the paint colour is correct for a early DAK helmet, my only concern is where you see it lifting up around the lip, acrylic paint will do that.

Re: Opinion?? Luftwaffe M40 Helmet

I will add that the wear to the lid is not what i would expect to see on a used helmet, and don't like the paint job either, looks modern to me not DAK.
