I'd say the soutache is a post war application while the rest is original.

Agree with Mark I have seen a few post war humped up rb numbered tropical caps.

Hi Marco

Agree with Mark & Barry. Original Han's Brandt made cap from March '43 with a rbn#, but with soutache added post war. This cap is one of the many non-soutched sidecaps bought up by an enterprising individual who then had the soutache added around twenty years ago. If you see an unissued tropical sidecap dated after Aug '42 its most likely been added post war.  Another from the beehive cache...

but I have not bought it. For me it was strange the cap has the soutache...

Agree nowadays the caps that have been played with are worth less than the originals without any soutache ever having been applied. Original untoutouched non soutache sidecaps go for about $400us so the cap with pioneer piping is valued less at this point.

Try convincing dealers of this though, Some still try to get over $1000us for a beehive sidecap with a post war soutache...
