SD m40 Camo

Hi Team,
It's been awhile since I posted anything (never fear - I'm still collecting smile)
I was offered this one and couldn't let it pass. EF66. Nicely painted around the decal, liner never been out.
Hope everyone's doing well,
Mark

Thanks Rich! Mark,
Certainly, I'll have to organise a good shot of the liner and post it ASAP smile

Re: SD m40 Camo

Beautiful helmet Mark.
Nice score.
Tim the typical Tunisia color is that yellowish tan which Roy posted a few days ago.
I would call this a Südfront helmet that could have seen action anywhere, Afrika too.

Re: SD m40 Camo

Hi Guys,
I'm not convinced by certain colours being for specific periods. We've seen pink tones associated with North Africa, certainly, but also straight tan on early m35's as well as 1942 used Paratrooper's helmets used by the Ramcke Brigade (with a more yellow tinge).
Without provenance it's all guesswork. The base colour of the helmet is apple green so a very early produced helmet before the production was switched to a less reflective finish. The paint exhibits a typically burnt/cooked paint finish that I've seen on enamel paint, and still retains sand in the apron recess. Love it either way smile
Cheers!

Re: SD m40 Camo

Thanks for the extra pic Mark

Just what I was hoping to see, not painted under the rim, love the wear to the liner, shows it been well used

While it a guess to where it saw action (paint no indicator), still a great addition to the collection, having the decal always a big plus

Re: SD m40 Camo

Wow,
Very similar indeed - I'd like to put the two side-by-side for a comparison.
I've seen that one before - I cannot remember where at this point....
Thanks Mark smile

Re: SD m40 Camo

$3175 is too much for that helmet.

One can easily get a pink camo helmet, complete and untouched for 2.000 - 2.500.

The LW is a stunner Mark. I know the previous owner and was chasing him to sell it to me but after i saw the shell size i changed my mind hmm

Re: SD m40 Camo

Great helmet Mark. I also agree with your comment about the color variations. I have seen a few different shades turn up in South Africa as Vet pickups in North Africa.
