My Tropical/DAK gas mask collection

Hi everybody,

My friend Chris from Cyprus asked me to register and post my tropical gas mask canisters. Here they are.

Just let me know if anyone wish to see more pics, close ups, etc.

Cheers from Denmark
-Alex

Haha, they have come to me from here and there and this is the first time I have posted any of them on a forum.

I am not sure which one of them are my own favourite. It might be the third from the left though it is a bit annoying that someone has scratched a couple of SS runes in the bottom of it.

No problem I will make sure to put up a tan camo display one day soon.

Welcome Alex ! I love these items, beautiful camo paint.....have you other stuff ?

Thanks! I started collecting tropical field gear at one point but sold/made trades with most of it except a pair of tropical helmets which are the ones Chris is refereeing to. My primary focus area are German camo helmets.

Re: My Tropical/DAK gas mask collection

I have seen canisters with cleaning cloth wires to hold the mask in shape and spare lenses in that special box under the lid. Did they carry decontaminate stuff as well?

Re: My Tropical/DAK gas mask collection

Hi don! Alright, looks like I can add something here to the Forum that I have seen little published on so far anywhere! smile Yes, the German has tins for tropical tinted replacement lenses for tropical use as I have the sealed tin for in my photos below. Also the gas mask can was supposed to have 4 of the decontamination kits enclosed tongue: cool: Enjoy!

Re: My Tropical/DAK gas mask collection

Hi Rich! Thank you for the favorable comment smile I have several myself that are empty with all the paper missing as they seem to survive well in the dirt for the relic hunters to find! The ones with the paper and seal intact are harder to locate but I have seen a few on EBay! Good luck! cool

Re: My Tropical/DAK gas mask collection

I have seen many mask containers and none had this items inside. Maybe a soldier added these in your cannister?

Re: My Tropical/DAK gas mask collection

I haven't seen one yet personally, but have seen the placement in German field manuals/instructions for the decon kits. They seem to always be separated like the capes from their bags. I have a nice collection of the bags but only a couple gas capes that were in them originally? hmm

Re: My Tropical/DAK gas mask collection

If they are listed in the manuals then they should be inside. Maybe most soldiers removed or used them that's why we don't find them inside today? We will never know.

Re: My Tropical/DAK gas mask collection

Awesome! I am surprised how rare this seems to be turning out to be! The decon kits in place I would expect to be rare, as they would fall out. But the lenses are easily secured and should have easily stayed in the cans and never converted back to regular lenses? hmm

Re: My Tropical/DAK gas mask collection

Found out this significant fact recently-the decon kits were what was used to lighten colors on tropical uniform items! big_smile Contents must have been a type of bleach which would be a reasonable assumption to accomplish that action!   Barron
