Einige meiner Sammlung

Here are some pieces from my collection. Some of them of dubious antecedence.

This medal I bought in about 1985 in Munich. Oddly it has a French double pin in the ribbon.

100% authentic cuff title.

Supposedly cut from an overcoat by an Australian soldier. Eh...

I have shown this piece to several serious collectors and a few SvB veterans (many years ago of course). The jury is out on this one.

Re: Einige meiner Sammlung

Hi Alphared
I have a Sonderverband patch just like yours (see my post 'Fake sonderverband patch?' under DAK insignia). As you'll read, I don't like it at all. I fear yours gives us a further clue that these things are dodgy. Look at the cloth, then compare it to that of DAK greatcoat's posted on this site recently by Markus and by Willi Strohmeyer. It doesn't look the same to me at all! (I've just been looking at another greatcoat in the flesh and its fabric is identical to Markus and Willi's, and nothing like yours). Of course to be absolutely sure one needs to compare these things directly, but I think yours is another 'deliberate attempt to deceive'.

Re: Einige meiner Sammlung

Hi Guys,
The devil's in the details. The backing is smoother on originals than the chequered posted by Mike in his thread, and I'm unhappy to say the one posted by Alphared6. I also would not be happy with the metal SvB item. Just my opinion, not definitive.

Non of period materials will melt if you burn them.

Only petroleum based products will melt once burned.

Mike - (My name is Mike as well, BTW) As I said, I have some items of dubious antecedence. Some items I am leery of because of the individuals I got them from, some due to their look like the SvB patch.

I feel pretty good about the SvB badge because of where  I got it. I was at the Frankfurt Flee Market in about 1977and purchased it for 5 DM from a kid selling his father's stuff.

Thanks everyone for your opinions here.
