Re: Japanese & U.S.M.C. Helmets

You mentioned garage sales. I have a friend that only buys real WWII stuff (unlike me). He bought a samuri sword for I think one or two hundred, one guy that knows the stuff took the handle off , it is dated from the 17th century ( samuris were handed down to family members), said that it can be valued at 20k. The way this guy buys his stuff: look up garage sales and be the first one there, older houses that means older people, hopefully the wife is alive and wants to get rid of her dead husband's junk, sometime  ask if they have old stuff not on display (it doesnt hurt, my friend hit a big find that way). Estate Sales same way be the first one there( may be a line) but if the estate sale has some managing it ( a pro) , the pro or someone he knows gets the real deals before they open to the public. Wish I had the time to do this stuff. Oh, if you have sometime of real value ( like my friend's samuri) do not go to those ads in the newpaper where they have people from Japan coming over to buy the stuff, if its of real value they can confiscate as a nation treasure.

I have very few Japanese items. Impressed! Have you had the smith's name translated on the officer's sword?
