Them & Us Display

Hi Team,
I don't believe I shared images of a very small display I did at an auction some months ago, so here goes. This was put on for mostly collectors who really don't know much about militaria - they were predominately gun investors and shooters (a great buch of guys, too) to show a basic fieldgear and uniform comparison between the Germans in Africa and our troops. I chose our wool uniform over KD (although KD was on display) for a stark contrast.
Cheers,
Mark.

Re: Them & Us Display

Hi Mark, outstanding examples of uniforms and equipment and a very thoughtful presentation layout smile

I'm a great admirer of the way you have painted the faces and hands of your mannequins.  I've seen many examples where
other collectors have tried to do similar work but they just haven't captured the same realistic look.

Just one small question which relates to a post on rucksacks that I recently did.  The straps on the German rucksack with what
looks to be the metal eyelets - Lux tab ends or the flat painted metal type with the two rivets or maybe even another type?

Thanks very much for posting,

Markus.

Re: Them & Us Display

Thanks Guys!
Markus - It depends on the model rucksack. Early waterproof rucksacks had flat, riveted webbing ends (generally!) while the next generation went to the pointed 'LUX" type ends. You'll also see this on canteen straps.
Cheers,
Mark

Re: Them & Us Display

Nice display! Sure wish I would be allowed to have some realistic mannequins like yours. Interesting to see that you did a wonderful job of combining the types of displays at a temporary venue!   Barron smile

Re: Them & Us Display

Mark superb items, thank you for sharing the images.

I do like the tan litzen used to denote rank on tropical insignia, I feel this was in advance of its time as I believe similar subdued and desert camouflage insignia was not used by the allies and only used by the British and US in modern conflicts, for example the gulf war - operation Iraqi freedom.
