Excellent pic! And like most often in Luftwaffe tropical uniform pics, the man is wearing a standard leather belt with his tropical uniform! Even though this pic was taken in Italy, I notice this too in pictures taken in Afrika. I believe that in regards to the Luftwaffe in Tropen service, that the leather belt was by far, still the norm. Great photo...thanks for posting!


I study and collect uniforms, equipment, decorations, personal effects, photos, weapons and vehicles of the ground forces of the Heer, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine and Waffen SS.

Agreed, the Luftwaffe primarily wore leather belts in Afrika and Italy. Take a closer look at the photos of luftwaffe troops in tropical uniform. You will notice that about 85-90% of all Luftwaffe troops are wearing leather bets.  By reviewing the photos, you will, from time to time, see canvas belts - but that is the exception and not the norm.
