Tropical medical specialist badges

Hi, here are some photos of tropical medical specialist badges in my collection.

The badge on the left is designed for the tropical Mantel (overcoat) and has the silver cord denoting NCO status of the wearer.

Following photo shows reverse of the badges...

Following photo is from p. 79 of "Rommel's Army in Africa" by Dal McGuirk and appears to show the tropical medical specialist badge attached to the sleeve of a soldier's tunic.

Re: Tropical medical specialist badges

I found this further photo on the internet last night.  Caption read that this was a medical orderly assisting with the movement of wounded troops following the Axis surrender in Tunisia in 1943.

The medical specialist badge appears on the lower right sleeve.  Regards Mark.

Another medical specialist badge - part of group photo from Sonderverband 288.

Re: Tropical medical specialist badges

Quite likely another medical specialist badge - photo taken by member of 10 Panzer Div... if you look very carefully I think you will see the curve of the serpent emblem wink

I reckon it's likely to be the version with the tan center and dark green edge, as shown below...

Re: Tropical medical specialist badges

Hi Rich, thanks for taking the time to comment.  I reckon these badges are pretty good value for money and are still readily available.

At least at the moment if you buy a tropical specialist badge there's a very good chance that with some basic research you can be
confident you're buying an original pre 1945 item - and usually for less than $50.

Regards Markus.
