Re: British machete

Did you ever get any answers to your question from sources other than hear? I have a good collection of American machetes and related English examples in case you are still interested. I have seen few pictures of them in Africa but they had to have been used in Tunisia.

Re: British machete

Here is one of my examples that would been possibly used in north Africa throughout the campaign. This example was made by Collins & Co. in the USA but in the British configuration for lend-lease. About a year later the British started making their own with slightly different handles and naturally markings of their own companies. Hope this is what you were looking for? cool

Re: British machete

Thank you guys again for keeping this forum active! I will definitely try my hardest to keep contributing! smile When it comes to machetes, I have gone crazy as they are so much more reasonable than firearms and in California they are still unrestricted so far!!! I do have several firearms also which could be related to North African campaign but hadn't noticed much in that direction of this forum? cool

Re: British machete

Hi Thomas! Could be an allied occupation variation, but not wartime. hmm There were also some made in Belgium at the end of the war for occupation forces. The handle type was used through the Viet Nam era but I would guess yours is right after the war due to Russian involvement in Eastern Europe. cool

Re: British machete

I thought this would be the best place to show this interesting photo reprint I obtained recently of a German Navy soldier with a captured British machete in front of a captured Churchill tank. I think it was taken after the Dieppe raid but it is not labelled. Hope you will enjoy!   Barron  cool

Re: British machete

Yes Baron
this is a famous photo. He is a sailor (note the anchor on the left arm) probably belonging to a small auxiliary ship anchored in the port of Dieppe at the time of the operation Jubilee. He shows, at the end of the battle, his war trophies!
Besides the machete on his belt we can see probably a floating smoke grenade. These were used by Canadians to identify themselves from ferries to re-embark.
Ciao
