LW Pith Advice

Hi guys,

I have an opportunity to purchase an olive green example, maker marked, dated 1942, and superb condition (likely un-issued),

or

a tan example,  not maker marked or dated, really nice condition but it's 'been there".

I know the olive examples are rather scarce, but I'm not sure how desirable it would be compared to a tan that likely saw service.

What would be the wise move?

Thanks!

Roy

Re: LW Pith Advice

Hi Roy, that's a matter of personal preference. I never go for the mint/unissued items but others love them.
I would advise to post pics here prior purchasing anything as there are issues often with these pith helmets. There was a hoard of the olive green ones found in Czech Republic and usually they are being messed with by adding LW badges to gain a higher price.
Just browse this section of the forum and you will find several threads with examples from the Czech hoard.

The green LW tropenhelms are very popular used or not. However a nice used early cloth 1st pattern tan helmet is widely seen as an actual DAK piece. To each there own. If you can find an early green Herr helmet that would be my first choice....

Hello Magpie.
I did indeed find an early olive green Heer pith and went for that one.
Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Hi Tim,

I haven't taken pics yet but I will certainly post them here.

Thanks again!
