Luftwaffe or SS Tropical High Top Boots

I bought these about 10 years a go as Luftwaffe tropical field boots but have not seen another matching pair since. They may be eastern European (Czech or Polish) used by the Germans. Both pairs are marked differently and have different tongue/interior configurations but are very similar externally. Hope someone can put some light on these? hmm  Barron

Re: Luftwaffe or SS Tropical High Top Boots

Here is the second similar pair made of coarser canvas with R.B.Nr on the sole and attached leather flap in the tongue area. Heel has probably been redone? Enjoy!  tongue   Barron

Re: Luftwaffe or SS Tropical High Top Boots

Custom made reproductions. I saw similar sets before (I think I have a set stashed somewhere as well - I must look them out).
The stamps are all added to give some form of 'historical timeline'.

Why the wrong tan instead of olive? What is the pattern supposed to be Luftwaffe or SS? Look forward to seeing yours!  hmm  Barron

Re: Luftwaffe or SS Tropical High Top Boots

I agree, not originals IMO.

A one look fakes.

The design is not SS or LW but rather Heer. They are purporting to be 3rd pattern boots, to be more exact.

Nice Marco. Have you completed a tropical ss set up on a mannequin?

Re: Luftwaffe or SS Tropical High Top Boots

Ciao Don
my collection has a main subject: the reconstruction of the most important WWII battles, with correct uniforms and equipment of their soldiers. So the SS tropical set up is of secondary importance for me because this particular uniform has not been used in important battles. (however I think this will be soon a new entry)
In my collection there are also parallel secondary branches, like helmets, uniforms, equipment, USMC, etc.
This boots belong to my German tropical boots branch...

Here are other shots. smile

Re: Luftwaffe or SS Tropical High Top Boots

Thanks for the extra pics Marco. If i had the boots i would be tempted to build a display. I used to have a nice Sahariana tunic but sold it last year.

Re: Luftwaffe or SS Tropical High Top Boots

actually I'm thinking to do this complete...
Sahariana and shorts are not so difficult to find. Furthermore in this way I could improve my german tropical tunics and tropical trousers collections. smile

Well I found this photo this evening, looks like this old thread is the most appropriate place
for a copy of it to go...

I'm assuming that zip3120 has already completed the uniform.

Re: Luftwaffe or SS Tropical High Top Boots

Unfortunately there are quite a few types of reproduction boots out there.  From what I've seen some were being made
back as early as the 1970's and so these are going to even have some age patina.

With the price of original tropical boots being now being very expensive it is probably commonplace for many collectors to
have repro boots as gap fillers or to protect original boots from stress if put on a mannequin.  No problem with this, unless
you pay original boot prices for a repro pair.

The most important thing is to study the features on original boots and to know the key things to look for.  Also, as forum member msteve21 warns,
be aware of anything that is significantly under priced.  From what I've seen recently, a pair of original third pattern Heer tall boots is likely to be
in the vicinity of 2,000 - 3,000 Euro, depending on condition and whether a desirable size.

There have been a few repro 1st pattern Heer high pairs appearing for auction on eBay Germany, which are one look repros,
so beware neutral

Hope your health is going ok Barron and that you'll be back with us soon smile

Regards Markus

Hi friends
after a long time I went back to the forum.

Markus very nice pic.

No I have not completed my tropical SS dummy yet.

In this period I studied more and more about the battles of the Italian campaign and with surprise I saw that the 16 SS Pzgr. Division wore tropical uniform in summer time!

Studing the Battle of Cecina, one of the bloodiest battles of the Italy campaign, also named by Allies little Cassino, I found that soldiers of this SS Division, fighting hardly against the 34th US ID (and predominantly against the American japanese), wore tropical uniforms, as we can see in the pics.

So SS tropical uniforms were no longer of secondary importance for me but now they have become a priority.

Therefore I went in search for the missing pieces of the dummy and after a long time my research has been crowned with success, I recently found nothing less than that an absolutely untouched sahariana, with its cap, owned by a member of the 16 SS Pzgr. Division!!

I am very very happy for the extremely rare cap with its original sewn insignia like the sahariana too with its arm band and eagle original sewn.
Now it will be very simple to complete the dummy... smile

Thanks very much for posting these great photos and I can't wait to see the completed mannequin.  As you know sometimes
