Hello from England.

Hello. Glad I found this forum. I have recently become very interested in DAK and M41 also M43 caps.
Am trying to learn as much as possible.
(When I was a child, my best friend's father was a POW Panzer driver. He was captured in North Afrika).
Also looking for best new repro cap maker.
Who do I look at/buy from ?
Many thanks
Al

Re: Hello from England.

Hi Al and welcome to the forum.

Actually the caps are all called M40. They are just divided into 1st and 2nd pattern or early and later models. M41 and M43 is a wrong terminology used usually in websites selling repros.

Here is a nice looking repro cap. I have bought from another ebay seller in the past but next time i will try one of these.

Re: Hello from England.

Many thanks Don.
I have sent him a message and had a reply. He sent a link to ebay for size 61. I tried to buy but it failed as not possible to add international postage. Hopefully we will find a different way to pay. Looks like a very nice hat.

Re: Hello from England.

That wouldn't be a problem. He can send you an invoice including the postage and with instructions on it to "pay now".

Happens to me all the time.

I hope he will. It's gone quiet now.
Your hat looks fine. Think you did a great job of 'ageing' it.
Thanks for your advice.

Re: Hello from England.

Hello Al from Mike in the great Southwest USA.
I have one of these and I very happy with it.  The color is near identical to my originals and if you ask he'll do yours with any color soutache, or as I did, none at all. He had all sizes last I checked.

Hello Mike. Thanks. You mean you have one from Sven ?
I hope I can get back in touch with him and complete the purchase.
It's good to hear the colour is right.
Thanks
Al

Sorry - I had failed to post the link.  It's there now.

Oh - stay away from the officers version, the piping is just white cotton cord rather than the aluminum wire.

Re: Hello from England.

Thanks Mike.
Do you know if the peak stiffener is plastic or card ? i.e. Can it bend and deform or does it stay the same shape ?

Re: Hello from England.

Al, the cap that Mike referred to is the one i own and you have seen at the other link.

The visor is made of plastic i guess but you can bend and form it as you wish.

Re: Hello from England.

Don, I ordered a cap from a seller in Germany. It will be sent out in two week.
Olive green tropical by EREL with pink soutache and cockade. I also ordered an Eagle from a seller in the US tho I'm having some thoughts about sewing it on as I want to wear this cap and do not want to attract negative responses from the public.
What is the protocol on this subject do you think ?

Yes, that's correct.  What I don't understand is how these manufacturers can do all this research, have the material made and still use PLASTIC in the visor. HOW HARD IS IT TO MAKE THEM FROM THE CORRECT MATERALS?

Re: Hello from England.

Al better not apply the eagle on if you want to wear it everywhere.

I know it shouldnt be like this but people are being very judgemental and i hate it when they stare at something.

I know people here who have a bust of Stalin on their desk and they consider this normal. If one wants to have Hitler they would see him like this o_0

Mike they just make cheap copies for reenactors. They don't care about having the correct materials and finest details. Personally i like this situation more than those makers who are trying to copy everything because they make it difficult for collectors.

Have you checked out the thread with Stu's boots? I would like to hear your opinion regarding softing and preserving leather please.

Re: Hello from England.

They are fine in my opinion.

You can also find eagles without swastikas at ebay. They hold an iron cross instead.

For every day wear i would use just the cockade and soutache though.
