He is an Italian soldier and there is no way to be sure if he is a Para or not.

Re: Italian Tropical Uniform

Yeah that's an interesting photo hmm
He is wearing the tunic worn by Brigade Ramke (Para) as has been mentioned by Seb & Thomas and he is wearing LW trousers but he has Italian insignia on the left sleeve?
Not sure what the insignia is on his collar, possibly just the Italian Star insignia, so a combination of German & Italian for what reason is anyone's guess, strange indeed roll

Maybe an Italian Liaison NCO? Note, he also has no shoulder boards??? He is also wearing a strange type of belt with what looks like an Italian pistol holster but hard to tell from this small photo?

It's all good and well to sing along when the world goes along with a song, but the man
worth while is the one who can smile when everything goes dead wrong.

Re: Italian Tropical Uniform

It's an Italian soldier serving in a Luftwaffe ground unit, most likely a Flak formation, in 1943-1945. In this period  several thousand Italians were transferred to Luftwaffe Flak, Bau (construction) and airfield security units. The collar insignia is the RSI (italian Social Republic) sword & wreath badge introduced early in 1944, sleeve chevrons are RSI Air Force and indicate a Jr NCO rank. The use of the so-called Ramcke blouse is most unusual, it was a rare garment at that time too!
As documented by period pctures,  in summer time Italians serving with the Luftwaffe donned the Luftwaffe tropical dress, with RSI insignia. Both German and Italian M33 helmets were used .
