Army Officer's Pelzmutze Winter Cap

I thought I would submit my officer's pelzmutze example for your inspection! It has a nice officer's eagle wired to the front where it normally couldn't be seen anyway but I have exposed it! big_smile Hope you all enjoy! cool  Barron

How is this a Officers hat? Named and service numbered? The eagle is attached in a strange manner. Mine use the prongs on the back as attachment. Rich A. in Pa.

Mine too. Probably the prongs must have been cut off and wire was used to attach it.

Re: Army Officer's Pelzmutze Winter Cap

Wish I could pull the eagle but can't! I figured the date was 1943 but it sure is subject to interpretation! tongue I was told that the metal eagle would designate officer plus the white fur predominance? Otherwise it should mean a lot of them would be available in battlefield digs? roll                   Barron

Re: Army Officer's Pelzmutze Winter Cap

I also think there was no distinction on these caps between officers and soldiers.

Re: Army Officer's Pelzmutze Winter Cap

Definitely no piping on wool portion. cool Are silver officers eagles real common then? Would be very good to know as I need a gold one for my KM Model 41 and will probably never get an original (after 30 years of hunting). I don't believe there is a design difference between KM and Heer design except color and possibly attachment points? hmm                Barron

Re: Army Officer's Pelzmutze Winter Cap

The only eagles i have seen are the standard cap eagles. Either in zinc or buntmetal.
This is my example (not in my collection anymore).

Re: Army Officer's Pelzmutze Winter Cap

I saw a Officer one. It was sheepskin and had both eagle and coccade on it. He wanted way to much for it. Must have been private purchase. Rich A. in Pa.

For sure, since officers had to get dressed by themselves thus army issued garments were meant only for EM/NCOs.
