Well Used Italian Colonel's Tunic

Thought I would bring this out and try to get some information on a slightly moth eaten Italian officers jacket  smile. Supposed to be from a Colonel that served in north africa. Maybe the medal bar can tell something? hmm

Finally got a chance to look up Acqui Division! Wow! Wonder how this guy survived or maybe had transferred to another division with newer uniforms. I will have to watch "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" closer the next time! hmm  cool Thank you so much for the Identification of unit. Now maybe we can get the campaign ribbons and his name on the maker tag 0n the next tunic figured out and identified! big_smile           Barron

Here is my second slightly stripped second uniform from the same soldier smile   Enjoy!

Re: Well Used Italian Colonel's Tunic

Very interesting, as this is from the same officer as the earlier tunic! smilesmile  Must have transferred as I conjectured and therefore survived the massacre of Acqui Division! As usual, more to research! big_smile

Re: Well Used Italian Colonel's Tunic

Hi Rebbaron55
you have two prewar tunics. After 1940 they have not the colored collar, insigna on the shoulder straps, piping and the gold buttons.
Unfortunately is very difficult for me to say that the first tunic belongs to Acqui Division. This division had a yellow with a central vertical black line mostrina. Their seem to me not yellow but red or orange.
Please could you do a close up of them?
If you can, try to see under the collar patch to see the original color.

These are original WWII Acqui Division mostrine. Unfortunately I have only them from Acqui Division sad

Here you can see a catalog of all WWII Italian mostrine.

http://i59.tinypic.com/28s4phk.jpg

The second tunic has the shoulder straps for the high uniform and unknown collar patches.

Ciao

Re: Well Used Italian Colonel's Tunic

hi Rebbaron thanks for pics, but I asked you close ups of the first tunic, to try to define its regiment.

These pics show a pair of collar tabs belonged to an officer of 28° ID "Aosta" ( 5 or 6 regiment ).
Since July 1943 this division participates in the defense of the Sicily. Initially deployed in the western part of the island, after the Allied landing at Syracuse the Division moved into the central area of Sicily and with the Division "Assietta"fought stubbornly Anglo American troops at Nicosia, Capizzi and Troina, helping to slow their advance to Messina.
Ciao I hope this was interesting for you.

Re: Well Used Italian Colonel's Tunic

Hi mate
I absolutey do not  think it is an Aqui diviison tunic, probably it is belonged to Aosta ID.
Did you buy it together with the other jacket?
Have them the same size?

Re: Well Used Italian Colonel's Tunic

Hi
They belonged to the same officer. This officer was a first Captain of Aosta division in 1930, (unfortunately the tunic have not the ranks to the wrist ), late he became a Major.
