Improvised DAK Ring and Post War Afrikakorps Veteran Association Ring

Hadn't seen either of these on this site so I thought I would post them here. They are not in the class of some of the others I have seen , but are still of historical and individual DAK veterans significance. Don't know if the first was damaged or just not completed, as this is how I received it. cool Soldier must have been one of the survivors of the Italian Ship Esperia that was sunk near Tripoli by a British submarine! big_smile Excellent article on the internet about the incident on the "Regia Marina Italiana" website!

I like the first one. Very unusual.
The second must be from a veterans reunion.

Re: Improvised DAK Ring and Post War Afrikakorps Veteran Association Ring

Hi don, yes, as mentioned in thread title, the second ring was for the veterans association as I also have a magazine from them that I need to scan the cover from and post. It would sure be interesting to get some of the articles translated I'm sure! tongue  About the first ring, I picked it up a while back not knowing about the significance of the side panel on the SS Esperia!! Quite an interesting surprise. I have a postcard coming from your part of the world-Greece showing it in the 1930's that I plan to post on arrival cool

Re: Improvised DAK Ring and Post War Afrikakorps Veteran Association Ring

Post card finally arrived from Greece! it looks like it is dated 1923 and shows that the ship was part of the Brindisi Cruise lines that sailed from southern Europe to the Americas. Wish I could read and translate what the sender wrote roll cool  Enjoy!

Post Script: In this research I found that after the sinking of this ship, it was later replaced with a ship of the same name.

Very nice Barron. Thanks for the update. Maybe a German speaking member can read the text?

Re: Improvised DAK Ring and Post War Afrikakorps Veteran Association Ring

Thanks guys for the comments! smile Seba sounded like he could read it as I believe it is in French? Since the writing is in cursive script my Latin background (3 years) doesn't help me as I can't read half the letters! tongue

The card is written in french! So its something for Seba smile
Even the old cards from the germans by this time are written on so called "alt Deutsch" or Sütterlin and this cant read everyone anymore. Only the older people 60+! They had it at scool! It doesnt get taecht anymore! Sad!!!

Thomas!
