And even 10 years later such items were still easily ordered by mail for little more. The chances we too, the wonders we passed on!

Re: How about them Pith Helmets!

Updated the picture, now up to at least 40 different makers and if the RBNr examples are not duplicates of named examples, the total is 42.

Any additions will be gratefully received.

An updated version, with one new addition and I have added numbers to them, as that will make it easier for me to update it again when required.

Re: How about them Pith Helmets!

Jerry, wow great to see the different makers all in one image!!!! Very informative!!!  I have also been busy with keeping track of the makermarks of the pith helmets! These are the first and second version mixed together I think?

Here is another makermark! Just the letter N. with the date behind it. Would be great to make a study about the makers, to see what the letters are standing for!! I have a couple of research books, maybe I can trace some of these here.. I also have a Carl Halfar pith, with the makermark stamped into the leather, I will post it soon for you.

Re: How about them Pith Helmets!

Hi, sorry but I think the SS shields are copies.  The runes are not sharp enough and the pebbling is nothing like that seen on originals, IMO.

Jerry

Re: How about them Pith Helmets!

Thanks for your comment JERRY...
the rune shield was togheter p-helmet since 1973 , and i think there are many possibilities about his genuine origin ....the other shield was added to complete the item 6 years ago...
I'll verify your opinion with others...

Re: How about them Pith Helmets!

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the info.  The French Blue examples are quite common in my experience and more importantly are to easy to fake.  TheDutch/sa helmet is probably the rarest, thought SS example from Tibet/Nepal is probably the Rarest of all.

Jerry
