WW2 German Graves in California

Thought I would follow some of your wonderful encouragement and post some of my photographs and information on WW2 German Graves in the California. These eight individuals gravestones I located in a military graveyard in Benicia California several years back. I was told that most of these were captured in North Africa but have no documentation at this time. Hope this topic is accepted by this excellent group and added to!

Re: WW2 German Graves in California

Thanks for posting these Barron.
Pity that the German soldiers cannot be researched. Only relatives can apply for info from the WASt.

Re: WW2 German Graves in California

I was wondering about that! sad  I do a lot of research on American Civil War veterans and their graves in California and their records are available online for a price, but never could find anything about German records on line and their method of access. I would have researched these guys for sure earlier. I will have to keep my eyes open through my genealogical contacts!cool

Re: WW2 German Graves in California

I finally got to San Francisco and visited Golden Gate National Cemetery with the office open! smile Located area where German and Italian POWs were reburied when the camps were closed. Very interesting, as they were scattered through the section and I am sure I did not locate them all, but did find about 40 combined in this one visit including several officers. I will post pictures as I get the chance! cool   Barron

Several of the pictures look blurry as they are cut poorly and some have been highlighted like Heinze and others have not.
