German Tropical Lamps and accessories.

I thought I would start this topic with a nicely marked and camouflaged travel box. Sorry for the slight distortion of dimensions from my camera lens. Pictures taken in natural midday sunlight to show accurate color.

Re: German Tropical Lamps and accessories.

i noticed one of these type stove/heaters being used in a Afrika Korps book, so I thought I would bring out mine.big_smile I know that the Arara type was used but there is some discussion on the Juwel 34 being a civilian model versus the 33 being a military version.  Hope you will enjoy! cool  Barron

Re: German Tropical Lamps and accessories.

Just acquired this interesting field stove. Just have to find a replacement cap for it. tongue  Also it turns out it has a tan/brown camo paint on the underside! Can't find too much info on it yet, but hope someone has an idea here? Same company made this as the Juwel 34 stove/heater above. Enjoy!   Barron

Re: German Tropical Lamps and accessories.

Hi Barron,

These links may be of interest if you haven't seen them.... Looks like manufacturer Gustav Barthel of Dresden produced a range of related products.  From a quick look on the internet it looks like they made similar items up until the 1980's.  Don't know whether they're still operating today....hope this is of interest.

Re: German Tropical Lamps and accessories.

Just obtained this item I have looking to acquire for years-a bakelite framed field lantern in decent condition. They must have gotten a lot of hard usage as they always seem to have cracks and pieces missing! sad This one has a bit of damage to the metal reservoir and missing front glass pain as well as retaining knob which should be easy to replace so I am very happy! big_smile Hope you will all enjoy!  Barron

Re: German Tropical Lamps and accessories.

Thanks for the comments! Yes, this is the first I had seen that was bakelite and not a carbide lamp. Much smaller than the earlier tan metal one in pic #4 which I was not expecting. I picked this one up on E-Bay from Russia for about $80 USD plus shipping. Best price I have seen for a complete one after searching for a couple years! Barron smile

Here is the metal equivalent which is a bit larger but has more accessories included such as green and red glass! Thought I would compare them for you in a couple photos side by side. Hope you will enjoy! smile  Barron

I also picked up the military version of the Juwel 33 type heater which is very little different than the previously shown Juwel 34 model. I also picked up the repair kit painted in tan -tropical? smile  Barron

Here is an item I have been looking to acquire to go with my stoves and lanterns-a well marked bakelite fuel container. The first one I have come acrossed for a reasonable price! Hope you will enjoy!  smile   Barron

Thank you, Sebastian for asking. smile All is okay here now (our cat was diagnosed with diabetes and has possibly cost us our vacation in July because of expenses). I am looking forward to retirement next year when time off isn't so precious! At least the weather is getting better on week-ends so I can get back to taking more pictures of my collections! tongue

I finally picked up the normal type bakelite carbide lantern! It is complete except for one missing glass panel of glass which should be simple to replace. Hope you will enjoy!  smile   Barron

Very cool selection of items! I have a Arara37, came back with a KIWI who took it by force and used it throughout the African Campaign. Popular items for future deerstalkers smile
